About

pete dewhirst

I am a professional photographer based in Exmouth in Devon, south west of the UK.

I joined the Royal Air Force aged 15 and served for 15 years. During this time I developed both my love of sport and my passion for photography. After leaving military service I worked for an International Telecommunications company which enabled me to live and work in many countries around the world thereby fostering my love of people, travel and different cultures and subsequently to become a professional freelance photographer.

In parallel with my day job I pursued my interests in photography and in the sports of Triathlon, Duathlon, Cycling and Running where I have proudly represented Great Britain in both European and World Duathlon Championships and at age 62 still compete regularly.

I developed a strong interest in documentary journalism and environmental portraiture My photojournalism has brought me some success: I won first prize in a major competition. As well as having been published in magazines, my images regularly appear in The Guardian, The Times and Sunday Times, The Sun, The Telegraph and local Newspapers. I also received a Highly Commended from the Picture Editors Guild for Citizen Photographer of the Year 2011 of which I am very proud. I have also worked for companies big and small, local and International, Honda to Newsquest.

I now primarily concentrate on my music, documentary and photojournalism photography as this is what I really enjoy and really excites me.

I am a published author and I have held a solo exhibitions.

All of my images are available for sale so if you are interested or would like to commission me or just want to contact me for any reason, please feel free.
